In the year 2013, technology is something that mostly everyone has integrated into their daily lives. From digital television sets to smart phones like the IPhone and the Galaxy Note to electrical heaters and wireless printers. Technology has somehow impacted all of our lives and it is truly fascinating to discover exactly how it impacts us, both negatively and positively.
While reading “Promises and Perils of Digital History”, I found it very interesting that “http” actually stood for HyperText Transfer Protocol. I actually never knew this prior to reading this introduction of Digital History and I’m glad that I know what it means now. Additionally, the internet allows for people to connect in so many ways. This includes email, Instant messaging, the use of social network as a means of communication, and as the text stated, dialogue and feedback on websites as well. This is fascinating to me because at one point, these things didn’t exist and as we began to develop and advance our technology, it all became possible. Now we are able to communicate back and forth electronically and this means of communication has reached all over the world. And it doesn’t just stop here; there are probably several more communication devices and channels being developed right now to make this process even easier. Amazing!
This semester in History 390 I would like to research how the first cell phone transformed into gadgets such as the IPhone and the Galaxy Note and what we should expect from these companies in the future. Will we have phones the size of a micro chips? Will PCs and Macbooks even exist anymore? Recently there have been debates and issues about gun control in America and something interesting that I would like to research is the development of weapons, especially guns, in our society and how they have impacted our communities overtime. Lastly, I would like to research the advancement of technologies used at higher education institutions such as Smart boards, projectors, etc. How have these advancements affected education in these in institutions both negatively and positively? Hopefully I can discover the many answers to my questions by researching them throughout this class journey.
